I was TDY in Frankfurt this summer and things have remained about the same around the old kaserne for the last 3-4 years. Four Stories re-opened under new management and really sucked (they were playing German folk music). I took a lot of new pictures for the website of the kaserne and surrounding areas, but I need an email address that can handle multiple pictures. Dan, can you send me the email address? Thanks Chad

Tough Soldiers: I was one of the last to leave the 143d in May 1992. It seemed surreal how quiet the kaserne was after all of those years of activity. I left Frankfurt and PCSd to Fort Gordon along with a lot of other folks. Jobs I held in the battalion were in the ADSO, assistant battalion S-3, Battalion S-1 and finally HHC Company Commander. I am currently stationed at the Pentagon in the Army G-1. Over the years I have run into quite a few Tough Soldiers in my travels and it is always good to recount the old times. Unfortunately there's only a handful still left on active duty:-( Tough Soldier, Geoffrey E. Pierce

Hello Everyone,

Wanted to let you all know that I am now back home from Sarajevo. I arrived Saturday. It is wonderful to be back home and surrounded by family. Adjusting back the they ways of the civilians will take a little time but I am sure that things will work out.

Kosovo and Bosnia were a great experience in many different ways but I am glad to be back on U.S Soil. Thanks to all of you that kept in touch with me while I was gone. It was a great comfort to receive emails from all of you.

Update-Dave emailed on 10/28 and is alive and well!

David Morrissey emailed from Houma, Louisiana, Fri 9/2/2005 1:57 PM, after the hurricane hit; haven't heard from him since.  If anyone has heard from him let me know.  Dave, if you see this, drop us a line.

"I am alive and doing better than most. This devastation here is biblical, the pictures on television can not show the extensive and expansive destruction. This is an ongoing disaster, that has been worsening, and spreading by the minute. Most of Southeast Louisiana is under water. The cartography has been forever changed. My area in Houma was suffered minimal wind damage, we did have one hell of a storm, but fortunately, Katrina veered east during the final hours. The aftermath reaches further than the actual damage. The survivors are being absorbed into area communities, homeless and jobless. The economy has suffered a major blow. Many industries are gone. I believe the worst is yet to come. Personally, I have already been impacted by the fiscal crisis, as I am pretty much out of work. I can volunteer, though, that doesn't pay my rent.
We are seriously considering evacuating this dying region, but like the survivors in the New Orleans and surrounding coastal communities, if I could have done that before Katrina, I would have. I have enjoyed my time here, and the people, but this is not my homeland, my heart isn't connected, I have no roots.
I would like to get out before the next "storm" hits. Hell, there may even be another hurricane poised to strike another attack on the Gulf.....
help us all."

Hi all, I was on SGT Rhodes’s team in the Gulf along with Morrissey and we set up with James, McCormick and Mullins. I went five years active then six years NG where I went through OCS then resigned my commission in 2000. I am currently an Operations Specialist with a company in FL. I also do consulting, basically I tell people how they should be running things (Those of you who know me realize what fit that is for me). Only now I get paid a lot more money to do it and no one has shot at me yet. I am still married to Stacey and now have three boys. Please feel free to drop me a line.

Hello, Danny! Hello, All! Great job on the website, it really has come along way. Had a bit of trouble finding the new guestbook, though. I've been in Louisiana 3 years now since leaving the Ft Hood area. I am doing well, I am still bartending and have a great gig at a very upscale piano bar. Doctors and lawyers and such, good money. I am 2 1/2 years into my five year plan of becomming a succesful freelance photographer. I absolutely love the addition of the pix and vids and the bios, these really help remember the details that have either faded with time or where just blocked out all together. Keep up the good work and the monumental task of keeping our histories relevant!

Something I've been working on:

143rd Signal Battalion, 3rd Armor Division GW1/Desert Storm Grids

This information is based on my unit identifier, provided by a guy in Washington, DC:

In 2000 I received some information in the form of a fax from Mr.Michael Hunt in Washington. It is from the Center for Research of Unit Records [CRUR], and contains DMDC/CRUR information for my wife and myself. Supposedly, this is exact map grid coordinates [6 digit] for our UIC's from 15 Jan 91 to 17 June 91 in my case and 28 Jan 91 to 12 May 91 in my wife's case. At first I was excited to get the information, as it could show our [3AD/1st Brigade TOC, G41/G42 SEN] proximity to or distance from Kamisyah and other events. The thing is, I returned to the 143rd Signal and left the theater of operations June 4, 1991. There are some obvious errors in the information.

The smaller oval shaped overlay is an estimation of the Kamisyah exposure [I did that one from memory-in no way accurate].

The larger, circular overlay is the known spread of Oil Smoke from the Kuwaiti Fields.

The overlays can be turned off and on.

I'll post the grids later, when I get home.

I was stationed at the Edwards Kaserne and lost contact with some comrades from my unit. I also miss the pizza from that little pizza shop across the street from the kaserne, and the drinks at the tick-tock club down the street.
