I'm really just updating my info. My MEB was completed in February and my final day in the Army is 21 Jun 04. I enjoy reading the comments from people that were in 143d with me.

SPEARHEAD, DAMMIT! I am currently living in Gorgeous San Diego and working in a job I love (yes, it is possible!) I've just self-published my second book of poems and have done some fun readings around town. If you would like the books, just drop me a line. (I'll give you the Ex-Army-Buddy discount!) I am grateful everyday that I am not in Iraq, relieved that my time for fighting is over. Danny, you continue to be my personal hero for this site. Thank you for all the love you put in, thank you for the pictures. I am disappointed we couldn't get enough of us together to have a reunion, but I will not let go of the dream. Lets make it happen. Id love to hear from any of you, lets reminisce!

Hello again, more memories, Mr.Morris our Chief Warrant Officer and platoon leader - we were always short of officers and senior NCO's. Does anyone remember the real skinny guy whose nickname was Chickenman from the AFRN show? Or the half-Yakima Indian, half- Mexican guy from Washington state whose nickname was Taco? How about the Church across the street and those bells that rang early every Sunday morning? Does anyone remeber the rifle drill team we had in 1977? We performed at a change of command ceremony for our sister division, the Bundeswehr 5th Panzer Div. That Gasthaus across the street was called the Frankfurter Gastatte as I recall. I also remeber the bratwurst stand across the street that was run by a blond woman and her old mother. Late in my tour there were two new places to eat in the same block, a little burger shop and a pizza place run by two brothers that featured pizza baked in a brick oven with a real wood fire. The division aviation was out in the valley north of Edwards Kaserne at Rose Field, until we got Cobras, which were over at Hanau. Every summer we did support missions at Hohenfels and bought really good german beer in flip top bottles from the German Civilian workers canteen. When Gen.Starry became V Corps CG, we did a big signal demo in the parking lot with cables and generators - everything worked and it was raining that day.

I would welcome communication with anyone who was stationed at Drake/Edwards during 1974-1976; especially HHC 143d Signal Bn troops. I still miss the old stomping grounds. Anyone remember Frank's Place down the street between the two kaserns? Kitty was one of the barmaids who worked there then. Frank was a good friend of mine; I was saddened to learn of his death a few years ago. Anyone know of the whereabouts of LTC George Smolenyak? I learned to have great respect and appreciation for him during personal crisis, and have often wondered where he is. Those were the "best of times, the worst of times."

Looking for anyone who was stationed with 143d signal bn during 1974-1976. Anyone know of the whereabouts of LTC George Smolenyak, his driver, specialist Burt Burton, Darrell Boyd. Also interested to hear from anyone stationed with 503d S&T Bn during that time. E-mail me at elethae@aol.com

Hello! I was stuck at home the other day while my car was at the garage. While I was waiting to find out if I was going to have to pay an arm or a leg, or both, I did a google search for the 143rd Signal Bn, & found this site. It brought back a lot of memories. I don't consider myself to be a nostalgic person, but it was fun to see the photos & read some of your postings. I recognized some of the names posted. I have a few photos of some of the people I served with from 78-80. If any one is interested, one is of a 1978 Christmas party at the motorpool & includes: Joy McNair Harry-O (sorry, I don't know his real name) Dee Chadwick Sgt. Casias (& his daughters) Oliver Dave Sherer Debbie Yaw Andy Ross Rayanne Wolcott Scott Howlett Don Davis & the back of Paul Hunter's head. Other photos I have are of: Mike Wolff Lucy Denny Patty Reilly Kitty (at John's) Ricks Betty (BJ) Kemp Tina L. Dan Clark Jay Shuga Dave Sherer (& Petra) Taylor 1st Sgt Gilmore Capt McKenzie George Long Mike (?) Lincoln John Robinson Jim Lewis Mike McGuire Steve Hill Sgt Gaillard Don Rancourt Laurie Edwards Let me know if you'd like to see them. Roxanne

I am a vetran tying to do my best to support the children and families of POW, MIA and KIA troops. Our vetrans organization supports all branches of service as we believe that fighting for Freedom and what in General is Right can only be the right thing to do.. Governments even ours make bad decisions on foriegn policy where the natives of some countries are treated badly and for that I ask forgiveness. But, to let people like Stalin, Hitler, Paul Pot, Musellini, Sadam Hussien or even Osama BinLadden run your world would mean that even those who would not fight for freedom would still be able to live in freedom. Visit our web site and order our software "The Media Cataloger" the funds will go directly to the children of our MIA, POW and KIA troops. Can you as a soldier think of a better cause.Just think of your children when it becomes your turn to serve in a war zone. We will be ther to help them. Read obout our charities on our web site at http://www.vt1540.org

Hello Tough Soldiers of the 143rd Signal Battalion. I had a wonderful time serving with all of you. I was the Battalion Maintenance Officer for those who may not know or remember me. I retired from the Army in 2000 and now live in Michigan. If anyone knows the whereabouts of SFC(r) Ray Salsedo, BMO NCOIC, please drop me a line or two. I lost contact with him during my last tour of duty in Germany 1996-1999. Thanks! Ted
