Still in, in fact I just got back last night from Kuwait. Wasn't to outgoing in 143rd, was a rough time in my personal life. Left right before the MSE fielding so I missed the Desert. I made up for it though and went this time. I'm at Fort Bliss now.

Great upgrade on the website Danny. The picture section brings back a lot of great memories. Would love to jump into a time machine and go back there for awhile. Had a blast but didn't realize how great it was untill it was gone. Got a new e-mail address so anyone can drop me a line. Would like to hear from John Oreilley.

There was no wartime service but there is no choice for that. [Webmaster-I changed your entry to Cold War.]  I am the ex-wife of Brian Hoskins but thought i would look and see if there were any old friends here. I was in Frankfurt to see how much things had changed since living there and alot has changed. Frankfurt has grown ALOT! Drake/Edwards is still there but very run down and the Main Exchange area is probably totally gone now. The only thing standing in 1998 was the commissary and the gutted out gas station. Kitty's (bar across street) was an italian restaurant and the little bar owned by a retired army guy across from where we lived off base was a pizza place. They had just opened. Was sure sad to see the kaserne that way but the horse was still standing strong. :) That was sure some good times even with the car bombs and chernobyl!!

I have many fond memories of my times at Drake Kaserne. I served as Platoon Sergeant Company C, 2nd Plt and battalion reenlistment NCO. When I arrived CSM Spruill and 1SG Scott were my senior NCOs. Col Blasingame had just departed. LTC Alfred P Jones was there when I left. I cna't remember the CSM (the last time I saw him he was a greeter at Wal-Mart in Clarksville Tenn). I was part of the NCOs that started the Voice of Iron Signal Training Course. We taught new soldiers the mission of the 143rd and the way we communicated. In 1975 we received our first female soldiers in the battalion. They made a BIG impact on the way we operated and conducted ourselves. A good site and well maintained.

Someone with no military background asked me why I joined, if I didn't expect to go to a war in 1990-91.  Although I thought it was obvious, I told them we weren't at war with anyone in 1987 when I enlisted.  I also explained that my ETS in Feb 91 was delayed due to stop loss.   I served my time and even re-upped [yes, I was crazy].

Here's a mini poll:

We know you're all patriotic, but at the time of enlistment, what was your main reason for joining the Army?

[The Forum and the survey were dropped due to lack of participation.  The result of the informal survey was that most people joined for reasons other than wanting to go to war.]

I spent 9 years in Germany. My first 5 years with HHC 2nd Bde (Col's Driver and TC of a M577 RATT RIG)(85-90). Then 1 and a half with A co 143rd Sig BN. I was Section Sgt for the V3 section of 2nd Plt with SPC (Helllp Me) Buckley and SPC (Stay in the Track) Chavez(90-92). Then A co 143rd was redesignated C co 141st Sig 1st AD and sent to Bad Kruznuck, where I stayed til April 1995(92-95). 3AD will always have a place in my heart. I spent too much time in tents, shelters, track vehicles, mud, woods. sand, dust, smoke, cold, and the snow for it not to be. From 2nd Bde "Iron Brigade" to 143rd Sig "Voice of Iron" Spearhead for Life!!!!!

Hi everyone, I visited the old Edwards Kaserne area last night to find that there are new houses, apartments and row houses built where the old DFAC, Shoppette/Burger Bar and Bravo Motorpool were located. DeAngelos still has great pizza. 97th General Hospital is still operational, but not for soldiers and the American Consulate is scheduled to move to a part of the old hospital in the near future. As for Operation Enduring Freedom, we are going back to finish what we started in 1991....keep all of the soldiers in your prayers. Chad

I've just had a chance to revisit the website and have really enjoyed the great job being done to preserve 143rd's history and heritage. I was the SEN Section Chief for NC61 during MSE fielding and our time in the sand. I was one of the lucky ones selected to stay at Edwards until 143rd was finished deactivating. Left Frankfurt to attend ANCOC and stayed at Ft Gordon for five years as an ANCOC Small Group Leader and later as an Instructor for the Battlefield Spectrum Management Course (ASI D9/5D). During my time at Ft Gordon, I had the opportunity to run into SGT Holt (now a Warrant Officer), SFC Lopez, LT Chapman, SFC Henry, and several other from NC61. Deployed from Ft Gordon for a short tour in Bosnia and then back to Ft Gordon. I finished my Army career at Ft Sill, OK with the 4th Bde, 75th Division (formerly 479th FA Bde) retiring from Active duty on Dec 2001. I am currintly home in Odessa, TX, working for the hospital here as a Computer Programmer/Software Analyst. As American soldiers prepare once again to go back to Iraq, I can't help but think of our time there and all of the "Tough Soldiers" I served with. God Bless you all!!
