I was with the 503 S&T bn. at Edwards Kaserne 9/62-12/64 but just had to go to all of the pictures of the Kaserne both old and new. They brought back alot of memories , some good, some bad, mostly they were good. You people from the 143rd should be proud of Dan Ortiz, he has done A great job on the site. Spearhead.

I was not with the 143rd but the 503rd S&T at Edwards Kasern. I like to go into your sight as sometimes you have pictures of Edwards and I get to have some flash backs. I hope no one minds. I was at Edwards from 9/62-12/64.

I worked Garrison VHF. I made it out to 86 or 87 relay one time, but only for a month or so. SGT. Dyer was incharge out there at the relay. But the rest of the time I was a shift worker at Garrison VHF, above the snack bar. At that time Colonel Brown was in charge, my CO. was Capt. Smith, SGT. Frazer was (TOP) first sgt. I lived off post for a wile. I loved Garrison VHF! Great radio shack above the MARS station! We punched our (BAT WING) antennas right through the roof! We moved all the ANTRC 24 radios & TCC 7 carriers from the trucks & had them up stairs, TA 182 ringers & all. We always had a shot into Graff, or Wildflicken, or Horntville for support! First SGT Frazer hated me! (:-) I loved it. My call sign on the order wire was Super Strawbarry, cause I loved the wine also! Looking for SGT Perez, from Brownville TX. or Robert Bounds, from ILL.

Webmaster: The rank for Specialist is missing from the drop-down list. I was an SPC(P) at ets but SPC is not in the list. When I joined the Army in 1985 there were a few SP5 and SP6's around, but not for long. Did the Army do away with "Spec 4's" too?
Webmaster-I fixed the drop down list. I had added some text about the elimination of the -4 and up and my PC crashed and it was all lost. I will retype that later. To answer your question, yes they changed it to just SPC between 88 and 89 I think.

Great Site for the 143rd. I'm looking for Major Wayne J. Richards. Anyone know him, or how to get in touch with him? I was at HHC 1ST BDE, 3AD from 1987 - 1990 Our RATT RIG was in an M577A2 and unless we were in 143rd's net I was the NCS for 1st Bde. There was a 31Charlie in 143rd who called himself Cajun or Crazy Cajun. Anyone remember him? White guy with black or brownish hair. He had roughly the same assignment dates. For those who may remember, my "handle" was HOSER.

Edwards Kaserne Update: I drove by the Kaserne while I was in Frankfurt visiting German friends on 01 July 01....and it doesn't look good for our former home. The HHC, C Co, Battalion Staff building and the Wives' Club have all been leveled and are merely piles of rubble that are being hauled away. The spiked fence is all that remains standing. I will take pictures the next time I am in Frankfurt and send the update to Dan for everyone to see.

I was assigned to the 143rd Signal BN from January 1981 - December 1983 as a Platoon Leader in Co C and Co B and the Division Wire Officer. I participated in all Winter and Summer REFORGERS and all field excercises with the 3rd Armored Division during that time.
Upon to my return to the Florida National Guard in 1984 I converted to Finance Corps Branch and currently work full time with the Florida National Guard.
I really appreciate the pictures of Drake/Edwards Kaserne even though it makes me feel a little depressed. Some of the greatest times of my military career were spent with the 143rd.
By the Way, does anyone know what happened to the memorabilia from the "Map Room" which was located on the top floor of the Headquarters building? We sure had an accumulation of interesting stuff, which I'm sure was augmented by many items after I left.
I look forward to hearing from anyone assigned to the unit during my tenure. I also have information to share concerning the command structure and I'll dig out some pictures from my time with the 143rd if anyone is interested.
